Great Watch Feb 26, 2010 I just turned 40 so I wanted to get a watch to promote activity, but I wanted a watch that I could wear with a suit. This watch fits both. It is easy to use as far as chronograph etc. This is my first metal band watch, so that takes a little getting used to. The metal watch is not as comfortable as a leather or other type. The band is more durable than a leather or other type so there are trade offs.
Great digital watch, rare combination of features Feb 12, 2010 When the battery faded on my previous banged-up T53952 (I'd had an accident or two with it that scratched it up a mite), I decided I'd treat myself to a new watch. Though I was interested in something new for variety's sake, I wound up getting another T53952, and I highly recommend it to digital watch users; this is among the best watches I've owned. I'll list here the combination of features that make it stand out:
- metal band - I have no idea why watch mfgrs. assume people who prefer digital watches also like crummy disposable plastic bands. I hate plastic, Velcro, and buckle straps - this one's the real deal - durable metal, adjustable, easy on/off, secure when latched. That said, please note - the watch body itself is plastic, exactly the same body Timex uses for this watch with other band materials; it's just metallic in color. Unlike some more recent Timex models I've read reviews of here, though, the plastic body of the T53952 does not break easily at the band mounting.
- large readable display - as with most Ironman watches, day of week, month, date, and running seconds are all large and easy to read, nothing's tiny; highly readable in all lighting conditions from bright sunlight to full darkness with Timex Indiglo, with option to use either dedicated light button or auto-light on pressing any button
- large, easy to use buttons - another common Ironman feature - while the watch is far from bulky, its body's thick enough to provide nice large well-labeled buttons that are a dream to use, even wearing gloves; I had no idea how bothersome ordinary stubby little watch buttons were until I got this watch
- control interface - the watch design makes good use of its 5 push-buttons; this is the only watch I've ever had that has separate buttons to set values up and down, really nice not to worry about "overshooting" and having to "wrap around" all over when setting (e.g., for standard vs. daylight savings)
- countdown timer - while nearly all digital watches offer a stopwatch/chronograph feature (and the T53952's works fine, including multiple options for showing lap splits), many lack a countdown timer w/beeper, which I find very useful; combined with the easy setting for the countdown time (see above), you always have a handy timer with you, which is a lot easier to set than an alarm (though the T53952 offers that as well)
- multiple time zones - you can toggle to see your alternate time zone with a single push of the start/split button; working with computers in a data center for an organization operating in multiple time zones, I find it handy to always have UTC time available, so I leave the alternate set to that (for similar reasons I also prefer 24-hour "military" time, which is an available setting that I use on this watch)
After looking around for a while, I actually didn't find another watch that had all the above features with the metal watchband that I prefer; most that even come close are far bulkier, and I don't much care for that look. So I replaced my T53952 with another T53952.
Does what a watch should do. Jan 08, 2010 Keeps good time, durable, and has a light source. For the money its a good watch.
Only probelm was the band was to big. Went to a jeweler to remove links.
Definitely recommended for someone who needs a digital watch for exercise, for an alarm, or to wear during the weekend.
Timex Ironman T53952 Watch Dec 28, 2009 I have owned this odel od Timex watch for many years. I have looked at several stores to replace the watch and only found what I wanted on Amazon. I still have my old watch which works great and expect many years of good service from the one I just purchased. Great watch. Looks good and is rugged.
The Best Hands Down! Nov 30, 2009 This is my favorite watch by far. I bought my first one a few years back and loved it. I wore it day and night. I never took it off, and it lasted for almost two years. It went throw the ocean, sand, dirt, mud, saw dust, sweat, its been dropped, fell on, left in the washer and dryer and its still working. I never once had to change the battery. I may have been lucky on that part but all in all the watch is amazing. The Band ended up breaking at the point where it connects to the watch its self. Aside from that, the watch is bullet proof!
