After 6 years, it would still be the best watch I ever had....if the battery kept a charge. Jul 23, 2010 This watch was the best watch I have ever owned. I say "was" because it is now no longer reliable. I have owned this watch for just over 6 years now, and until a couple months ago, I never had a single issue with it. For 6 years my charge never went below "high." Recently, it started dropping to low and then even began to reset and "zero" out. The drop in performance was sudden. One day it worked, the next day it didn't; since then, it has been sporadic. I am sentimentally tied to this watch as it has been with me all over the world, including two tours to Iraq, never failing me when I needed it and taking an absolute beating through the years. Unfortunately, as many reviewers have noted about the Solar Watch the battery simply stops holding a charge around the 5-7 year mark. Mine was 6.
I bought this in 2004 when the technology was new and reviews about battery sustainability were not available yet. After many years now, this is a common problem. If the battery still worked, I would be a Casio guy for life. However, I think this Solar thing is just a gimmick to make more money. The cost to fix this issue is double the original price of the watch. It is simply more cost effective to buy a watch with a battery and replace it every couple years for 5 bucks. Some watches have 10 year batteries now.
So, I will never buy another Solar watch from Casio. The feature I love best is the Atomic time keeping, however, Casio seems to combine the Atomic and Solar features in only one watch. If I could buy an Atomic Casio (military style) with a battery, I may be interested. Until then, I will be searching elsewhere for a better watch. It was a great watch, but if you want it to last longer than 5 years, purchase something else.

had 3 of these all start dying after 1 year May 12, 2010 I have had 3 of these after a year all started going haywire the backlight started coming on with arm movement running battery down.
I had originally bought one and thought maybe I had somehow messed it up. so I bought another one , it too started the same thing backlight comes on with arm movement about 1 year old,
in the mean time I had never said anything about the watch to my wife since right after I got the first one when it worked good and was happy with it. not having told her about the disgust, I had developed with it
she thought I was happy with it and gave me one with a gold anodized face, after 1 year or so it did the same thing backlight comes on with arm movement, they all still work but I have to leave them under a lamp we leave on all the time facing up to charge since they are solar, I wear one until it runs down, then switch watches, with all 3 I can keep time . Casio priced me a repair that was 25% more than have we ever paid for any of these. I am definately bringing up my disgust with my watch with Fathers day coming up in hopes of a new watch.
Atomic Watch by Casio Apr 10, 2010 This watch is awesome! I used to be a Casio fan when I was younger but had replaced one with a dressier watch, a Bulova, then a Seiko, but I'm glad I came back. Great watch.
Watch Review Mar 13, 2010 This watch is well made and should hold up to tough use.The one thing that I have a problem with is the alarm function. The alarm it self is not loud enough to be heard over normal background noise and is set up as (one time alarm)this means that you can't set up a repeating alarm that occurs daily.

Easy to Set Up Mar 12, 2010 I haven't had much time playing with this watch, but the set up was a breeze. Just read the manual it comes with.
